Indian Navy Chief Admiral Tripathi Embarks on Key Four-Day Visit to Japan to Bolster Maritime Cooperation

Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), embarked on a four-day official visit to Japan on Tuesday as part of India’s continuing efforts to deepen defence and strategic ties with the East Asian nation. The visit, scheduled from July 30 to August 2, 2025, aims to consolidate bilateral defence relations and enhance maritime cooperation within the framework of the India-Japan ‘Special Strategic and Global Partnership’.

During his stay, Admiral Tripathi is slated to hold high-level bilateral discussions with top Japanese government and defence officials. His engagements include meetings with Japan’s Minister of Defense, NAKATANI Gen, Vice-Minister of Defense, MASUDA Kazuo, and Admiral SAITO Akira, the Chief of Staff of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF).

Defence cooperation, maritime security, and technological collaboration are expected to be key topics in the discussions. The visit also aims to identify new avenues to strengthen naval synergy and enhance interoperability between the Indian Navy and JMSDF.

Admiral Tripathi will additionally visit JMSDF units and interact with the Commander-in-Chief of the Self-Defense Fleet at the Funakoshi JMSDF Base, reflecting the operational and institutional depth of the India-Japan maritime partnership.

The Indian Navy highlighted that the Chief’s visit to Japan would further deepen the bonds of friendship and defence cooperation, paving the way for enhanced mutual understanding in key areas of shared strategic and maritime interest.

This engagement emphasises India and Japan’s commitment to advancing peace, stability, and collaboration in the Indo-Pacific, with a concentrated focus on maritime partnership.
