Demonetization: The long queue at midnight

Aman Pandey of Jan Ki Baat, is reporting to us live from the City of Nawabs, Lucknow, about the reaction of the city and its people post the demonetization announcement made by the PM, Narendra Modi. A long queue outside one of the ATMs reflects the state of utter panic the whole nation is currently feeling. Aman Pandey spoke to a few of those waiting for their turn: “I’ve come to deposit money before midnight.” –an anxious, and somewhat disturbed, statement was a common answer from those waiting. Certain amount of complexity that the announcement was clouded- its physical manifestation is quite visible in the scenario. Questions about where to deposit money, where to withdraw it from, are some of the essential ones.

The PM of India, Narendra Modi, announced on the 8th of November, his government’s decision to demonetize the higher-denomination currency. The old ?500 and ?1000 notes were banned throughout India from morning of 9th November, with the citizens being allowed to either deposit their old notes in banks or get them exchanged, until the new ?500 and ?2000 notes come out.

Clouded, unclear or simply misinformed individuals? Whatever the answer may be, the solution is one: provide a set of necessary information by communication in the right manner and in simple language.
