Voice Of The People

Did you know about The Other RSS that works towards empowering women?

Jan Ki Baat brings the other wing of RSS which is called the Rashtriya Sevika Samiti. The Rashtriya Sevika Samiti (National Women Volunteers Committee) is a Hindu nationalist women’s organisation that parallels the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for men. It consists of a group of empowered women who are a potent force for the development of the nation. Its activities are directed to nationalist devotion and mobilization of women.

The Delhi Prant Karyavahika- Sunita Bhatia says that the main goal of RSS is to arose a feeling of patriotism in the girls and to direct their force towards nation building. It focuses on empowering women & taking them out from the traditional role of the damsel in distress. Women is a power and this power should be directed towards the welfare of the nation.

Sadhni Rama Bharti, the class officer or Vargadhikari says that in the female wing of RSS, work is done for the mental and physical development of the girl child right from the beginning.

Vijaya Sharma, the Delhi Pracharika believes that women are the base of the nation. They have both the leadership quality and motherly qualities.

This was the culmination of a 15-day training camp, which began on May 27 organized by the Rashtriya Sevika Samiti. Over 50 adolescent girls, armed with laathis, swords and knives, with a saffron ribbon tied around their wrists, brandished their weapon-wielding skills in the open courtyard of GLT Saraswati Bal Mandir school in New Delhi. The girls were confident. They are taught to blend in with the other girls, they learn self-defense and protection. They are also taught to stay disciplined and to respect everyone.

The parents who enrolled their students for the camp want their children to inculcate values. A separate wing for nation building came into existence since the time of the freedom struggle when it was believed that men play the major role in the freedom struggle since they are more powerful. Headed by Lakshmi Bai Kelkar, the Rashtriya Sevika Samiti joined the force towards the freedom struggle, putting their force towards nation building challenging the stereotype against them.
