Let’s get one thing clear – the ‘Cash For Query’ scandal involving TMC MP Mahua Moitra is not about Henry (pet dog), Hermes (Luxury bags) or her relationship with Supreme Court Lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai or her personal friendship with Business tycoon Darshan Hiranandani. The issue, at its core, revolves around Mahua Moitra’s admission of sharing her Parliamentary login credentials with a businessman who then reportedly accessed it 47 times from Dubai. What does this admission mean? In simple terms, it means the Indian Parliament was breached 47 times from foreign soil by a third party. This admission has ignited a multitude of concerns and has left people with a slew of unanswered questions.
She dramatically walked out of the Ethics Committee meeting on Thursday evening and claimed the chairman asked her ‘filthy questions’. She even went on to call it ‘vastraharan’. While her allegations of personal and demeaning questions by the Ethics Panel Chairman must be investigated. Let’s not forget the core of the case. The primary concern centers around breach of Indian Parliament. Here are some questions that Mahua Moitra needs to answer:
1) How did Mahua Moitra get her ‘personal friend’ Darshan Hiranandani to upload questions on her behalf? Was there a direct method of communication, such as transmitting images via WhatsApp or dictating questions over the phone?
2) If she was typing questions on her own, why did she need a typist at Darshan Hiranandani’s office to help her?
3) If there was a staff member from Darshan Hiranandani’s office helping her, who was this person? Does this individual have a name and contact information, or is it Darshan Hiranandani, the billionaire in question, or perhaps someone else from his office?
4) If a member of Darshan Hiranandani’s staff was in fact helping Mahua Moitra, how insulated was this person from potential interference by his employer – Darshan Hiranandani?
5) Did Mahua Moitra share her Parliamentary login credentials with members of Darshan Hiranandani’s staff? How many people close to Mahua Moitra are in possession of the TMC MP’s parliamentary login credentials?
6) Mahua Moitra claims there is no quid pro quo because she was never given any cash to ask questions. How can one assume that quid pro quo is only possible when there’s exchange of money and not favours or luxury gifts?
7) Mahua Moitra was a member of Parliament’s Standing Committee on I-T . Is it true or not that this committee, closely aligns with her alleged benefactor, Darshan Hiranandani’s business interests? Is it not logical to ask then, was Darshan Hiranandani privy to highly sensitive and confidential documents?
8) Did Mahua Moitra’s role in the Health Ministry’s committee potentially affect sensitive health-related data?
9) Were confidential documents from the Joint Committee on Data Protection available to Darshan Hiranandani who had access to Mahua Moitra’s parliamentary login credentials?
As this scandal unfolds, the need for transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct becomes ever more crucial. Mahua Moitra, for now seems to be getting very little support from her party’s top leadership. A thorough investigation with no theatrics and drama, will bring out the truth.
