Anshul Gupta, whose All India Rank was 18 in the Union Public Services Commission examination conducted for the IAS, spoke to Honey Parwani of Jan Ki Baat about the hurdles in his path and his final success. This was Mr Guptas 4th attempt ahd he cleared it with flying colours. Earlier, he was part of the IPS cadre and was posted the SP at Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. The job was unpredictable and taught him many things. The ground realities that he witnessed taught him to to negotiate, prioritize and utilize the available resources. He was transferred 5 times but never lost sight of what he wanted. The change that Mr Gupta intends to deliver benefits all: he hopes to create equality in opportunity. An administrators job is to facilitate the people in the best possible manner and create opportunities for them. The old colonial, British model of examination that India continues to adopt isnt appropriate even though its been revised since its mostly rote-oriented and involves a lot of cramming of part of students. The management of IAS is quite different from IPSs; specialized skills and job profile being two of the primary differences.
The Indian Administrative Service is the premier administrative civil service of India. IAS officers hold key and strategic positions in the Union Government, States and public-sector undertakings.
Anshul Guptas message is honest: One shouldnt give up as theres a world beyond momentary disappointments; if done for the right reasons and with the right preparation, everything is possible.
