The team of Jan Ki Baat visited the Kashiram Colony in Moradabad. The colony is cited as a Dalit residency. The physical condition the colony and its residents are in, was absolutely shocking. Mayawati had built and inaugurated this colony but the splendour of that inauguration is lost now. There is a squalor at every corner of the colonys streets, filled with filth. The presence of open pits in several areas pose a serious threat to concerns of the residents, especially children. The residents also complain of damp walls and ceilings, which may collapse at any moment. The electrical wires, too, are uncovered; any direct contact may prove to be fatal. Money has been taken by the officials to fix the wires, says a resident. 200 rupees per wire had been collected but there has be no repairmen to visit thereafter. The broken water tanks cause storage-problem for drinking-quality water.
Kashiram Colony can be assumed to be a Mayawati bastion because of its residents. The currently ruling Samajwadi Party does not factor in Dalits in its voter-base which might be a strong reason behind the neglect of the colony. Mayawati, too, seems to be unbothered by the condition of the colony shes said to have built.
This about-to-collapse infrastructure has life-threatening implications. Was it poor quality of cement and building material that hastened this condition? Or is the current ruling partys ignorance of the residents? Why has there been no enquiry regarding the matter?,
