Why is Blue Whale Game easily penetrating a teenager’s mind?

The game

Blue Whale Game made its debut in Russia almost four years ago (in 2013) and is believed to have killed more than 130 teens all over the world so far.

The death of 14-year old Mumbai schoolboy Manpreet Singh Sahani has reportedly taken his own life as part of a deadly online social media game called The Blue Whale challenge.

Recently the 22-year-old creator was imprisoned to 3 years for instigating vulnerable teens to suicide.

He said the motive of the game was to clean up the people from society who thought were not worthy of existing.

This game focuses depressed teenagers with low self-esteem and who are dependent on other validation.

“Also, it makes them feel like they are a part of something that is bigger than them,” stated Samir Parikh, director of the Department of Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences at Fortis Healthcare, New Delhi”
This is done by completing several tasks from watching a horror movie in the middle of the night to cutting their wrists and ends with suicide. All this must be done on camera for the proof of the activity.

Why are teens vulnerable?

“Teenagers generally take these risks because they are vulnerable and prone to seek validation. Also, it makes them feel like they are a part of something that is bigger than them,” Samir Parikh, director of the Department of Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences at Fortis Healthcare, New Delhi.

What should parents do?

Parents should start spending time with their children.

They should be in contact with the teachers to know how the child is behaving in class.

Make them aware of this dangerous game.

Start diverting the child’s attention to some productive activity.
