This Gandhi Jayanti, Seva Sangam is initiated by the AIWEEG, in which many NGOs participated to achieve the Gandhis vision of a self-reliant India. Akriti Bhatia, the co-founder of Jan Ki Baat, spoke to Mr Shiv, one of the organizers of the event to understand the thematic significance of such an occasion. Mr Shiv reveals that his organization helps women from backward classes by providing them a platform to showcase their creative potential. Women from rural areas are trained and supplied with the raw material from which they create fresh, new garments. Mr Shiv hopes to trains 1200 women by 2017.
Seva Sangam was held at the New Delhi Municipal Corporation Convention Centre. It hopes to create jobs for the unemployed and unskilled and simultaneously contribute to the goals set for national development, by utilizing the existing resources. Narendra Modis Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao scheme, and his Make in India campaign have become huge motivating factors in such establishment of such creative enterprises.
Unlearning conventional diktats is a prerequisite for the attainment and realization of a developed India. Identifying the potential of one half of the sex, despite their lack of educational qualifications and experience, is conducive to this realization.
