Menstrual hygiene day “FROM ANXIETY TO CONFIDENCE” An initiative by Sachhi Saheli.

Pradip Bhandari, the CEO and founder of Jan Ki Baat reported NGO Sachi Saheli’s awareness campaign on World #Menstrual Hygeine Day live from Connaught Place, New Delhi. Sacchi Saheli in Delhi is known for arranging sessions on menstrual awareness in various slums in the city. This NGO is now all geared up to implement these ‘period talks’ in around 70 government-run schools in the city of Delhi.

World Menstrual hygiene day is an annual awareness day, on 28 May, that aims to break taboos and raise awareness about the importance of good menstrual hygiene management (MHM) for women and adolescent girls worldwide. It was initiated by the German-based NGO WASH United in 2014. The initiative for this Day has received the support of over 270 global partners who are committed to making good menstrual health and hygiene a priority worldwide.

“Menstruation should no longer be a topic confined to remote corners of the house. We aim to educate every girl to move from anxiety to confidence about periods,” says Dr Arun Gupta, co-founder, Sachi Saheli, the NGO that organised National Menstrual Summit on May 22.

People from different walks of society gathered in CP to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene. The NGO used street plays and songs to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene, break the taboos in the society and warn people of the diseases associated with the same. Students participating in the campaign said that it should no longer be a taboo to talk and discuss about menstruation freely, the old generation should step into the shoes of the new generation and come out of their tradition bound ideals of menstruation. It should be freely talked about with the male members of the society as well. Menstruation is not a thing to hide. The change in the society starts with us.
