From Mann Ki Baat to Jan Ki Baat on demonetization: JanJanKiBaat29

Mr Naren was interviewed by the Founder of Jan Ki Baat, Pradip Bhandari. Observing the cleverness of the demonetization policy to tackle the issue of existence of black money in India, Mr Naren commended the BJP government’s willingness to deal with the issue that has plagues the country for decades. He also spoke of the loopholes within the policy, all to do with its lack of public-friendliness. Saying that the new ?2000 note doesn’t work, Mr Naren pointed at the visibly obvious problem, that of lack of lower-denomination currency to exchange the new note with and thus, its irrelevancy during economic transactions.

The PM of India, Narendra Modi, announced on the 8th of November, his government’s decision to demonetize the higher-denomination currency. The old ?500 and ?1000 notes were banned throughout India from morning of 9th November, with the citizens being allowed to either deposit their old notes in banks or get them exchanged, until the new ?500 and ?2000 notes come out. Such a move intended to renew the economic market place and rid the country of the black money it had accumulated till date.

#JanJanKiBaat takes into account the variety of reactions to demonetization, to understand the public mood.
