The team of Jan Ki Baat spoke to a few residents of Gomti Nagar, Lucknow, regarding the upcoming State elections. An owner of a stall in the city believed that Akhilesh Yadav did not need to join forces with another party, much less Congress, to win this election. Congress image is quite marred in UP, therefore the alliance is a risky one. AKhilesh Yadavs SP could have won by itself, he emphasizes. Another citizen, too, came out in support of Akhilesh Yadav, saying that he had done a lot for the people of Lucknow. I usually vote for the BJP but I want the SP to come back to power because of all the good it has done in the city, the man reiterated. State and Centre are two different levels altogether and Akhilesh Yadav seems to be a good man for the State of Uttar Pradesh. Everyone wouldve similar views if the benefits of SPs initiatives could reach them, he said quite confidently; Akhilesh Yadavs party would have no problem if only its welfare schemes reached all of UP.
Uttar Pradeshs 400+ seats are currently divided into 229 held by Samajwadi Party, 79 by SPs Opposition, the Bahujan Samajwadi Party and the BJP and Congress controlling 41 and 29 seats, respectively. Theres an indication that the 2017 UP Elections may witness SP and BJP contesting against each other. The dates for the UP Elections were announced recently; it would begin on February 11 and continue till March 8, with 5 other Phases in between.
UP has been a site of battle for decades now due to its size, demography and geographic location. One would soon able to witness this battle.
