Story of 8 unsung heroes who played an instrumental role in India’s Independence

India will celebrate 70 years of independence this 15th August. We have heard of several freedom fighters and they are highlighted every time on this occasion. But there were some other fighters too who selflessly fought for their country and lost their lives at a very young age. 1. Khudiram Bose (3 Dec 1889-11 Aug 1908)He is known as the ‘Youngest revolutionary of Bharat’. At a young age of 16, he planted bombs near police stations and targeted government officials. He was sentenced to death for planning the murder of Kingsford, the magistrate of Muzaffarpur, Bihar.

2. Hemu Kalani (23 Mar 1923-21 Jan 1943)As a child and young man he campaigned with his friends for boycotts of foreign goods and tried to persuade people to use ‘Swadeshi’ goods. He was caught, imprisoned and tortured in an attempt to get him to reveal the names of his co-conspirators. He refused to do so and was put on trial. Later, he was hanged

3. Shivram Rajguru (24 Aug 1908-23 Mar 1931)He became a colleague of Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev, and took part in the assassination of a British Police officer, JP Saunders, at Lahore in the year 1928. All 3 were convicted of the charges and hanged on 23 March 1931.

4. Madanlal Dhingra (8 Feb 1883-17 Aug 1909)He was studying in England when he assassinated Sir William Hutt Curzon Wyllie, who was a British Official. He was hanged on 17th August 1909 at Pentonville Prison.

5. Parbati Giri (19 Jan 1926-1995)Due to her anti-British government activities, she was imprisoned for 2 years. She was just 16 years old when she was at the forefront of the agitation following Mahatma Gandhi’s ‘Quit India’.

6. Khushal Konwar (21 March 1905-15 June 1943)He was caught when a British train passing by derailed and many American soldiers lost their lives.  Khushal was ignorant about the sabotage plan and action. Although, there were no proofs against him, but he was sentenced to death by hanging and he readily accepted that.

7. Kanneganti Hanumanthu He was known for his rebellion against the British which is famous by the name ‘Palnadu Rebellion’. He fought for the abolition of the tax. He was aged 30 when he died.8. Kartar Singh (24 May 1896-16 Nov 1915)He became a member of the Gadhar Party at the age of 17 only. He came up as a luminary leader and started his fight to free India. He was later hanged in the Central jail of Lahore on 16 November 1915.These people definitely deserve are respects and attention for their contributions in the making o India.

8. Kartar Singh (24 May 1896-16 Nov 1915)He became a member of the Gadhar Party at the age of 17 only. He came up as a luminary leader and started his fight to free India. He was later hanged in the Central jail of Lahore on 16 November 1915.
