JanThe Railway Apprentice Association of India took to the streets of Jantar Mantar Delhi on independence day 15 August 2017.
The basic demand is the enrollment of the apprentice in railways jobs. These people were promised jobs by the railways however a 2016 notification reversed the order promising the apprentice a secured railway job.
These youth are in the age group of 18 to 35 and allege that despite being doubly skilled they are denied the opportunities of employment which they rightfully deserve.
The youth who have completed Apprentice training allege that those completing exam in 2015 have been allowed to continue but many of them belonging to pre 2015 batches have been denied this opportunity. They allege that on going increase in involvement of the private sector is an important factor.
15 august was the 6th day of their protest and as per one of the protesters Rajesh they are also mulling legal options. They are planning to continue the on going protest in front of the residence of Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhu.
Jan Ki Baat founder Pradip Bhandari also empathized with the protesting workers and assured them that Jan Ki Baat will continue to raise their issues as a responsible on the ground realty check platform. He assured them in his speech that platform that standing shoulder to shoulder with them, and helping them take their voice forward is a core principle of jan ki baat when it says it is the voice of the people.
