Pradip Bhandari and Akriti Bhatia, of Jan Ki Baat, spoke to the residents of a Jhansi village in Garautha Tehsil who had a lot to say regarding the upcoming elections in the State. Widespread support for the BJP arises from the failure of the currently ruling Samajwadi Party to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the villagers. Employment for the younger generation is a live issue. Other issues include lack of water resources, unused land, help-less farmers. There is not even enough water to continue to irrigation supply for the crops sown. The drainage system, too, seems to be faulty. Another unique issue that the villagers were dealing with was the excess of cattle; cows in the area are unmonitored and end up trampling the crops. Old cows are generally not taken care of well. The town also does not have a shelter for cows.
Uttar Pradesh Elections 2017 are soon becoming a source for redemption; not only for the BSP but also for the Congress, which is banking on its before-scams image. Congress has already formed a pre-poll alliance with the Samajwadi Party. The BJP, too, would welcome a win in UP as a public validation of its two and half year rule at the Centre. UPs 403 seat assembly will open itself as a battleground for many political leaders.
Development, a large chunk of the BJPs Sabka Saath Sabka Vikaas motto, seems to have attracted these Jhansi villagers. An otherwise distant dream, theyre quite sure that the BJPs win would make it more realizable.
