One of the major talking points about women’s sports is the fact that not a lot of Indians are supportive. While we tend to religiously follow the mens department, we rarely pay any heed to what the women are up to.
With the ongoing Womens Cricket World Cup, things look slightly better now. The players are now getting their fair share of recognition.
Yesterday, Mithali Raj became the highest run-scorer in Womens One-Day Internationals history.
The Indian captain even though in his FB post congratulated Mithali he made a mistake of using the picture of the Poonam Raut who scored a century against Australia yesterday in the ICC Women’s World Cup instead.
Even though the Indian skipper didn’t realise his mistake, the internet was unforgiving in their approach. People quickly pointed out the mistake in the comment section.
We get the wonderful intention behind this Facebook post, but this is a clear example of the ignorance that plagues the majority of us.
We hope that more Indians now know who Mithali Raj is because she is one of the best cricketers to have ever donned the Indian jersey.
