Supreme Court Sacks President and Secretary of BCCI for disregarding Lodha Committee Recommendations

That the governing body of cricket in India, BCCI, has always been plagued by corruption is an unsaid truth in India. However, with the Lodha committee passing stringent mandates on the structural and functional processes of BCCI, there seemed to be a silver lining to the cloud. The R.M. Lodha Committee introduced significant reforms in the functioning of BCCI such as limiting the amounts of funds it had access to, disclosing assets of all its members and being accountable to the RTI applications which were filed against it. The ideas of accountability and transparency, however, were a foreign concept to the office bearers of BCCI, who remained too oblivious in their own bubble of luxurious corruption and on the basis of failing to comply with the Committee’s orders, the President, Anurag Thakur and the Secretary, Ajay Shirke, of BCCI were sacked by the Supreme Court.
